Twitter Inspired Icon Crochet Pattern

Materials

  • Worsted weight gray yarn.
  • Worsted weight teal yarn.
  • Size J crochet hook
  • Darning needle (for weaving in ends and attaching components)

 

Abbreviations

  • CH = chain
  • SC = single crochet
  • HDC = half double crochet
  • st = stitch
  • sl st = slip stitch

 

Directions – Background Circle

R1: with gray yarn, ch 3, 10 HDC in 3rd ch from hook (10).

R2: 2 HDC in ea st (20).

R3: *1HDC, 2HDC* repeat all the way around (30).

R4: *1HDC, 1HDC, 2HDC* repeat all the way around (40).

R5: *1HDC, 1HDC, 1HDC, 2HDC* repeat all the way around, sl st to join (50). Finish gray yarn.

R6: Join teal yarn at any point around gray circle. ch 1, SC in ea st, sl st to join.  Finish. Weave in ends.

 

Directions – “t” Components (2)

Component One – Main stem of “t”

R1: ch 16, 1HDC in first 7 ch’s beginning with 3rd ch from hook, 3HDC in next, 1HDC in last 6 ch’s.

Finish leaving long tail.

Component Two – Crossbar of “t”

R1: ch 8, 1HDC in ea ch beginning with 3rd ch from hook.

Finish leaving long tail.

 

Finishing

Using the long tails, stitch both components of the “t” shape to the background circle.  Weave in ends.

R4: 2SC in same st, turn down side, 1sc in next 3 st’s, 2SC in corner, turn, 1 sc in 6 st’s down long side,  2SC in corner, turn, 1sc in 3 st’s down short side, sl st in next st (on top edge).

Finish with long tail.

Component Two – Envelope Flap

R1: ch 14.

Finish leaving long tail.

 

Finishing

Using the long tails, sew envelope flap to rectangle, then sew envelope to background circle.  Weave in ends.

Component Two – Cross bar (left and right sides) of “f”

R1: Join 2 foot long yarn to center back of stem with equal parts yarn on each side.  Tie a double knot to the back side.  Note: pretend like you’re starting to tie your shoe with two ends; slide it through a back loop on the back side of the stem; tie once and then twice.

R2: Using one strand hanging down, pull the yarn through to the cross bar level and ch 3.

R3: HDC in 2nd ch from hook and next ch.

R4: sl st to main stem to join one side of the cross bar to the stem.

R5: Using the other strand hanging down, repeat R2-4 for the other side of the cross bar.

Finish leaving a long tail.

Note: The cross bar will fill 2 HDC spaces on the stalk.

 

Finishing

Using the long tails, stitch the “f” shape to the background circle.  Weave in ends.
