NEWBORN BABY CAPE CROCHET PATTERN

Materials

  • Worsted Weight Yarn
  • Crochet Hook Size I (I for “ice cream”)
  • Darning Needle (for weaving in ends)

Abbreviations

  • r = row
  • ch = chain
  • st = stitch
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sk = skip stitch

Directions

R1: ch 34, turn, hdc’s across beginning in 3rd ch from hook (32).

R2: ch 2, turn, dc in first, ch 1, sk 1, [1 dc in first two st’s, ch 1, sk next st] repeat this set nine times, then dc in last st.

R3 – R5: ch 2, turn, hdc’s across.

R6: ch 2, turn, 2 hdc’s in first st, hdc’s across until last st, then 2 hdc’s in last st (34).

R7 – R43: two rows of R3, then one row of R6. Finish yarn here. Border will start new yarn.

R44 (border): Re-attach yarn at the center of R1 (this helps create a smooth border around the whole edge instead of blending in with the end of R43). Ch 1, and sc around all four sides of the cape, making sure to place 2sc’s in ea of the corners of the cape. Sl st to first sc and finish, weaving in ends.

Cape Tie

Ch 90, turn, and sc across beginning in 2nd ch from hook.  Finish off, weave in ends, then slip the tie through the holes created between R1 and R3.

Am I just misunderstanding something? If you chain 32 then hdc in 3rd st how can you still have 32 STS?

Hi Nicole! Thank you for catching that. I will adjust the pattern to say “ch 34” in Row 1 instead of “ch 32”. ~Maggie
